The Great Cheese Levee at the White House on 22 February 1837, when hundreds of visitors carried away most of a 1,400 pound cheese sent to President Andrew Jackson by some admirers from upstate New York; tradition has it that only a small piece was saved for the President's consumption. Color engraving, 19th century.
