TOWER OF LONDON ESCAPE. In 1244 Prince Griffin of Wales tried to escape from his prison in the Tower of London using his tied bedclothes as a rope. The rope broke and the prisoner fell to his death. English manuscript illumination from 'Historia Anglorum' by Matthew Paris, 1250-1259.
